Philippines: KMU considerations on the 2nd IMC

Dear friends,
Greetings from KMU Cordillera and Cordillera Peoples Alliance! We write to share with you our reflections from the recently concluded 2nd International Mine Workers Conference held in India last February 2 to 5, 2017.
We have met many struggling mineworkers like us, and have shared relevant information on various aspects of the present realities in our respective countries and the current state of the miners' movement including facts, figures, and current struggles. They proved that the working class movements worldwide have common enemies, similar problems and that it urgently needs international coordination for solidarity and support.
We also salute the National Preparatory Committee in India for their invaluable efforts and unity. They did a great job in mobilizing thousands of workers, mineworkersfamilies and the masses to uphold mineworkersrights and welfare, and in generating support and resources in order to support the international movement of mine workers.

The 10 forums at the conference served as venue for mutual exchange of experiences, learning process on the situations and struggles in the different countries, where concerns and demands were thoroughly discussed. Through every party痴 cooperation, language barrier was overcome. Minersissues, including social issues and current and future struggles were discussed passionately and in the spirit of camaraderie. The conference gave space for all participants to learn from each other.

We were elected unanimously in the new International Coordination Group (ICG) consisting of 9 country representatives of the miners' movements from the countries of Colombia, Congo, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Peru, Philippines and Poland. In this regard, we are coordinating with our organization at the national level (Kilusang Mayo Uno national office) to share the results of the conference and to decide and finalize who will be our representative in the ICG.

The conference has shown the importance of support and solidarity among peoplesworldwide, especially the mineworkers. Our participation in this momentous activity would not have been impossible without the support of GFF. Your unending support continues to give us an added strength and perseverance in advancing our struggle for the rights and welfare of the workers in our region as our humble contribution to the national and the international workersstruggle.
Finally, we would like very much to invite you to the yearly celebration of Cordillera Day. Please find attached a copy of our invitation for this year痴 Cordillera Day celebration. We hope you can send some delegates to this occasion and a message of solidarity. This year痴 celebration will be centralized and will be held in the province of Kalinga.
