Kyrgyzstan: Strike at Ishtamberdi gold mine

Miners at the Ishtamberdi gold mine in Kyrgyzstan have been on strike for more than three weeks. Their demand is 50 per cent more pay. Previously, they had rejected the offer of a 10 per cent increase. The operator is the Chinese company Full Gold Mining, which in turn is a subsidiary of the state-owned company Lingbao Gold.

The striking workers are also fighting to improve their food supply and better working conditions.
