Proposal of the Call from the ICG/IMC to the International Day of Struggle for the Environmental 14.11.20

Miners together against the extermination of our livelihoods through the destruction of the natural environment, and for the future of the youth! In this situation, where the world economic and financial crisis is intensified by the corona pandemic, we miners have a special responsibility to take to the streets to preserve the natural foundations of human life and the future of the youth.

The international monopolies, including mining companies and the international finance capital, want to shift the burdens of this world economic and financial crisis on to the masses in order to profit from it if possible. This leads to massive destruction of our environment, unbridled exploitation of natural resources and a massive increase in the exploitation of miners and their families. „The struggle of the miners for adequate living conditions must go hand in hand with the fight for the protection of their livelihoods. We oppose any play off of jobs against the preservation of our livelihoods and the division that goes with it. We need both to survive." (Extract from the struggle programme of the International Miners' Coordination) On 25 September 2020, millions of people worldwide took part in the global „Climate Strike Day" despite COVID 19, and young people in particular are at the forefront. Ella, 15 years old from Wollongong/Australia, reports: „On 25 September I am standing here with my uncle, who has been working in the mining and fossil fuel industry for 20 years. He deserves to work in an industry that does not jeopardise the future of his family. I know that investing in industries like gas will help him in the long run. …. We ... agreed that we cannot recover from the Covid 19 crisis and tackle climate change without ensuring that workers are provided for - and that renewable energy jobs are at the heart of the way forward." In the last few months since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the workers', environmental and youth movement has shown that protest actions can be carried out effectively while respecting health protection. For example, the "Black lives matter" movement in the USA, the May Day demonstrations of workers worldwide. Last but not least, miners in Colombia, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, Congo, Germany and many other countries are fighting resolutely against extreme working conditions, mine closures, for jobs, for political and trade union rights and for the protection of the natural environment. We oppose any division, whether by anti-communists, anti-revolutionaries and forces that undermine the unity of workers worldwide. Organise yourselves in the International Miners' Coordination! For only together can we be strong and build a superior force against the international monopolies and their governments. That is why we call on the miners of the world, take part in the demonstrations, actions, organise company and trade union activities as part of the active resistance against the imminent environmental catastrophe and destruction of our livelihoods. Hooray for international solidarity! Andreas Tadysiak Main Coordinator of the International Miners' Coordination
