We, the participants of the Duisburg rally on the "Day against Violence against Women", send you our solidarity greetings and our sisterly sympathy. Your men have climbed into the disused gold mines at the risk of their lives. They wanted to save you and your children from hunger and misery by selling the remaining gold deposits.
Now they are being labelled illegal criminals by the government and the police. The minister from the presidential office declares in a fascist manner that he wants to "smoke out" your men. Yet the capitalist buyers of the gold are the ones who are blackmailing you. They ruthlessly shut down mines and force you to earn your meagre living using the most brutal and life-threatening methods. You and your men are not criminals. Criminals are the mining capitalists and the South African state. Now you are even being denied access to food and water for the men trapped underground. We demand with you: Stop the blockade and agitation! Immediate help for the miners! Promise impunity for your men and prosecution of the culprits who have put you in this situation. Let us know what help you need and what we can give you from Germany. Let us stand up together for a future in which violence against women and working people will never again be possible with impunity. Fight the exploitation of people and nature, for a liberated world. Duisburg, 25 November 2024, passed unanimously with one abstention.
