Office of International Miners' Coordination: No struggle must stand alone! Together against attacks on miners' trade union rights!

The world's largest platinum producer Implats in Rustenburg, South Africa, announced the dismissal of 12,000 of the 28,000 striking miners on 26 January, just one day after the police killed one of the miners on strike! One of the affected colleagues documented a text message he had received from the company: "As a consequence of their absence at the hearing where they were supposed to declare that they had participated in an illegal strike action, the company has decided to dismiss them in absentia. They have 3 days to appeal."

The miners are demanding substantial pay rises. "We will not back down no matter what they say or do; we will fight to the last drop of blood," said one of the leaders of the strike.

We demand the immediate cancellation of the threatened dismissals and acceptance of the miners' wage demands!

In Peru, too, the miners and especially the trade union activists are affected by dismissals and forced redundancies. For almost 5 months, sick colleagues, including our ICG member, have not been paid their wages and the miners' families are suffering.
We are protesting against these arbitrary measures and reprisals against colleagues who are standing up for their legitimate demands!
In accordance with our programme of struggle, we demand that all governments around the world protect the right to organise, assemble and negotiate. We fight for the preservation and expansion of civil democratic rights and freedoms! Immediate payment of wages!
