IFTU CONDEMNS THE ARREST OF MSS LEADERS
BACHA SINGH AND DEEPAK KUMAR
DEMANDS THEIR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In the midnight on 31-05-2018, the Jharkand police arrested Bacha Singh,General Secretary and Deepak Kumar,Secretary of the Mazdoor Sangharsh Samithi(MSS) from Chandankiyari in the steel city of Bokaro. It is learnt that their whereabouts are not known and till day they are still in police custody and not produced in any court of law.
Their relatives have not been informed of the arrests. While this is illegal detention of two known trade union leaders we apprehend danger to their lives as long as they are in police custody.
The MSS is an open, registered trade union organization fighting for the cause of the workers on which the Jharkand government imposed a ban six months ago and the issue of this repressive act of banning a trade union is pending before the court. In the last few months some twenty activists were detained by the police and now with the arrest of the main leader,Bacha Singh the state government has made its intent clear once again -of suppressing legitimate trade union activity in the state.
The National Committee of IFTU notes with serious concern the growing tendency to stifle the voices of the working class by the powers that be and demands the Govt.of Jharkand to issue orders for the immediate release of Bacha Singh and Deepak Kumar and revoke the ban orders on the MSS.
