Statement of protest against the reprisals against the protesting miners to the Greek Parliament

The International Coordination of Mineworkers hereby protests against the massive repression of the peaceful protest of the miners of Kozani through violence, beatings and chemicals. The area where Prime Minister Mitsotakis met with representatives of the mines was cordoned off like a G7 meeting, 5 km around the meeting place everything was surrounded by police and the miners were attacked with violence, police batons and chemicals.

The miners are not criminals! They are quite rightly protesting for their jobs and against the fact that they are not being offered suitable alternative jobs. They are also protesting against their unbearable working and living conditions, from which their wives and children also suffer. We condemn the brutal violence of the police on behalf of the Prime Minister and support the demand of Spartacus, the trade union of the miners for punishment of those responsible! We demand from the Greek government and you, Your Excellency, to protect the right to organise, to assemble and to bargain! The miners of the world and the international miners' coordination demand a free trade union and political activity of the miners! For a full and universal legal right to strike! Yours sincerely
Andreas Tadysiak
Chief Coordinator of the International Coordination of Mineworkers
