We have heard that on 14 June, state authorities carried out an armed attack on miners who have been fighting for 26 days for the payment of outstanding wages and benefits, and against redundancies. I myself am a former coal miner with 35 years’ professional experience as an underground electrician and a trade union representative. We, the International Miners’ Coordination, would like to express our solidarity and support to the miners and their families:
In the International Miners’ Coordination’s programme of struggle, we advocate for wage increases that allow for a decent standard of living in each country. If miners’ wages are too low to live on decently, they must fight alongside their trade unions for higher wages and better working and living conditions.
The international miners’ movement stands against attacks on workers’ trade union rights! We demand freedom of trade union and political activity!
We stand by your side! Write to us to let us know how we can support you, and tell us about your lives and your struggle so that we can publicise them.
Long live international solidarity!
Militant greetings,
Andreas Tadysiak, Chief Coordinator of the International Miners’ Coordination
