India: Adverse effects of open cast mining

Coal mining in India began in 1774. John Sumner and Suetonius Grant Heatly of East India Company commenced commercial exploitation in the Ranigunj coalfield in West Bengal state. India has estimated coal reserves of 306.6 billion metric tons (338.0 billion short tons), the fifth largest coal reserves in the world. India is the fourth largest producer of coal in the world, producing 591.4 million tons in 2014.

The Indian Federation of Trade Unions strongly condemns the criminal negligence on the part of the unholy alliance of Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (ECL) management, the local outsourcing company Mahalaxmi and the officials of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) which has resulted in the cave-in in the open cast mine of Lalmatia colliery in Godda district of Jharkhand on 29th Dec causing more than 50 workers to be buried alive. It was no accident but a man-made tragedy waiting to happen.

Iran: Chadoremlu mine

More than 2,000 mine workers of Chadoremlu mine protest against the bill on amending the labor law imposed by the administration of both Ahmadinejad and Rohani

2,100 mine workers of this mine operation signed a petition and demanded from the parliament members that due to the obvious shortcoming with regard to labor law reform bill, to waver its review in the House and return it to the government.

Declaration of solidarity to the Indian miners on the occasion of their general strike on 2 September 2016

Dear miners and dear mining families in India,

on behalf of the miners of the world, the members of the Coordinating Group of the International Miners' Coordination conveys our solidarity with your general strike on 2 September.
In many countries, we are having the same disputes as you, partially even facing the same international corporations.
We believe that we, the miners of the world, must jointly act against that. Thus, the 2nd International Miners' Conference will take place in Ramagundam/Godavarikhani in India from 3 to 5 February 2017. We intend to decide on a joint Practical Program then.
Joint the International Miners' Movement and come to the 2nd International Miners' Conference.

We wish you a lot of success and are with you with all our heart.
We are making the struggle known worldwide.

APTUF Strongly condemned a massive death of Mine Workers in ORAKZAI (HANGU) District KPK

All Pakistan Trade Union Federation strongly condemned the massive blast in coal mine which causes the death of 10 mine workers and 30 workers were seriously injured in Orkzai, (Hangu).
APTUF express its great concerned that the government and the owner of the private coal & mine has failed to adopt labour laws, and health & safety measure in mine industry.

Iran: 18 incarcerated mine workers released

18 other incarcerated Khatoon Abad copper mine workers released on bail 5 detainees remain behind bars.

February 14, 2016: According to various news agencies in Iran and abroad, the lawyer for the 28 detained Khatoon Abad copper mine workers announced on Saturday February 13, 2016 that 23 of these workers have thus far been released on bail. Each of these workers had to put up 50 million tomans as bail in order to secure their temporary release. This means that in addition to the 5 workers who had been released on February 8, 2016, 18 others were released from February 9th to 13th for a total of 23. Their lawyer, Ms. S. Mahmoudi, reported that the remaining five detained workers will soon be released as well.

India: Pictures of the strike in January 15

  On 18th and 19th 0f december-2014 we participated in two days strike in SCCL (Singareni Collieries Company Limited).
In 16 Open casts mines around 20000 workers are in Strike for their wages & job designations, Working on Heavy Earth Moving Machines as OPERATORS but they are called drivers.

TWO years before JBBCCI (Joint Bypartiate Coal Wage Committee of India) & High-power Committee finalized wages to worker but still not implemented it yet. Nearly 250 crore of Valued money was lost as wage to workers. Even after two days of strike management & contractors are not willing to respond and are also not attending Labor officers joint meetings. So, Our Union is preparing for INDEFINITE STRIKE in 1st or 2nd Week of February 2015.
